Taliban capture shahrak district in Ghor

Local source: Taliban capture Shahrak district in Ghor

Shahrak district of the central Ghor province has fallen to the Taliban, a senior local security official confirmed to Kabul Now on Sunday, June 06.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, did not provide details.

Karamuddin Rezazada, Ghor MP, said security and defense forces have retreated from the district without any resistance against the Taliban militants.

The Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Interior, and officials in the province have not commented regarding the district’s collapse so far.

The Taliban have not made any comment regarding it either.

This comes after 10 security forces were killed in a Taliban car bomb targeted a military camp in Shahrak district on Saturday evening, June 05, according to Nik Mohammad Nikzad, police chief of the province.

Tens of commando forces, who are now stationed in Firuz Kuh, provincial capital of Ghor, are supposed to be deployed to insecure areas of the province to suppress the militants.

Ghor is a volatile province, where the Taliban militants control swathes of territories and occasionally launch attacks against government forces.
