Unknown armed men shot dead Mohammad Ismail Sohak, the administrative and finance head of the National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA), this morning, April 07, in Paghman district of Kabul, Kabul police confirmed.
The NSIA senior official was assassinated today, Wednesday, April 07, around 06:30 AM in Tangi Telle Qala-e-Wazir area of Paghman district, said Ferdaws Faramarz, the spokesperson for Kabul Police Chief.
He told Kabul Now that a joint investigation is underway.
Masoud Alishengi, the NSIA’s spokesperson and public relation, also confirmed Sahak’s death on his Facebook page.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Afghanistan, particularly the capital Kabul, has seen a dramatic rise in the targeted killing of government employees, journalists, and civil society activists.
Though most of the targeted violence goes unclaimed, the government usually blames the Taliban militants for the attacks.
