Afghan forces in Balkh

As many as ten Afghan security forces were killed and four others wounded in a Taliban attack in Nahr-e-Shahi district of the northern Balkh province on Sunday, March 07, local sources confirmed.

Mohammad Amin Dare Sufi, a member of the Balkh Provincial Council, said that the incident took place last night, March 06 in Shahrak Afghan area of Nahr-e-Shahi district.

“The Taliban attacked a police base. Three policemen who were in the watchtower escaped unharmed,” according to Mr. Amin.

Balkh police have sent reinforcement to the area.

A statement issued by the Taliban claims that the group has killed 12 Afghan security forces and wounded one more.

This comes while seven Afghan security forces were killed and four others wounded in a Taliban attack on Friday, March 05, in Chamtal district of the Balkh province.

Mohammad Hanif Rezai, the spokesman for 209 Shaheen Corps, confirmed that Lab-e-Nahr checkpoint of Chamtal district came under a Taliban attack on March 05.

He claimed that five Taliban militants including Malawi Belal, deputy district governor of the Taliban in Chahar Bulak district, were killed in clashes that erupted between the Afghan forces and the militants. He said the area is under government control now.

The Taliban claimed that eleven security forces were killed in the attack. They have taken one security force as a hostage, according to a Taliban spokesperson.
