A policewoman was wounded while her husband was killed after unknown gunmen opened fire at them in Lashkargah, the capital city of the southern Helmand province, a security source confirmed.
Zaman Hamdard, the spokesman for Helmand police, says that the incident took place today, March 07, around 8:00 AM in PD01 of Lashkargah district.
The policewoman, who is a captain, was wounded while she along with her husband were on their way to her office.
No group has claimed responsibility for today’s attack.
A surge in targeted killing of government workers, particularly women, has increased ever since the beginning of peace talks with the Taliban.
The restive Helmand province is located in the south of the country. The Taliban maintain control over large swaths of territory in the province.
