Blast kills female doctor in Jalalabad

A female doctor was killed and her daughter wounded after explosives placed in a rickshaw went off in PD3 of Jalalabad, the capital city of the eastern Nangarhar province, according to a local official.

Talking to Kabul Now, Attaullah Khogyani, spokesperson for Nangarhar governor, said that the incident took place today, March 04, around 08:00 AM in Gulayee Araban area of Jalalabad’s PD3. Sadaf was a female doctor, who worked as an obstetrician-gynecologist at the Nangarhar regional hospital.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Nangarhar is an insecure province where the Taliban control swaths of territories in some of its districts and occasionally conduct attacks against government forces across the province, including its capital city.

As the capital Kabul, Jalalabad has also witnessed a hike in target killings of journalists, civil society activists, and religious scholars in recent months. Though the Taliban remain tightlipped regarding most of such killings and even reject responsibility for some, the government often blames the militant group for targeted violence across the country.

Two days earlier, three female media workers were assassinated in two separate attacks in Jalalabad which provoked widespread condemnation among Afghan authorities, pro-media organizations, and diplomatic missions in Kabul.
