Herat launches 10-day campaign to promote domestic products

In collaboration with civil and media activists, Herat’s local government has launched a 10-day campaign to promote domestic and agricultural products in the western city today, September 02.

The campaign is aimed at promoting sales of Afghanistan domestic and agricultural products.

In a meeting with the activists, Herat Governor Sayed Abdul Wahid Qatali, expressed concern over low sales of agricultural products during the harvest season.

Making it obligatory for security institutions to use local fruits, establishment of markets for agricultural products, and imposing restrictions to import foreign fruits are parts of the campaign plan, says Jilani Farhad, spokesman for Herat governor.

This comes as the coronavirus pandemic has substantially decreased Afghanistan’s agricultural exports while the same products are imported at lower prices from neighboring countries.

Abdul Rahman, a farmer in Herat, called on the government to create cold storage and facilitate the export of agricultural products for promoting farming business of the Afghan farmers.

A large number of people in Herat work as farmers.

Herat hosted a fruit exhibition yesterday, Tuesday, September 01. Different kinds of agricultural products including grapes, fig, and honey were exhibited for sales and marketing promotion.
