Issuing a statement on Monday, September 16, the Resolute Support NATO mission in Afghanistan confirmed that a US service member was killed in the country.
The statement, however, did not disclose the identity of fallen US soldier.
Over 2,000 US soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan even since the presence of US troops in the country.
The death toll of the US soldiers raised to 16 this year while a total of 15 US service members were killed in the past year in Afghanistan.
This comes after President Trump called off the direct peace talks between the Taliban and US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad in Doha following a Taliban car bomb which killed 12 people, including a US soldier.
The talks lasted for about eleven month, and Khalilzad had stated in a nationally televised interview that both sides had reached a peace agreement “in principle.”
